Approx. time to make : 25 minutes (Including approx. 15 minutes cooking time and prep time)

Makes approx. 6 Pumpkin pasties

Ingredients

-350g shortcrust pastry

-150g pumpkin puree

-1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice (1/2 tsp allspice, 2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground ginger, 1/4 tsp ground cloves, 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg)

-25g brown sugar(additional for topping the pastries)

-1 egg

Method

-Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius.

-Roll out your pre-made or shop-bought shortcrust pastry and either by hand or using a large cookie cutter cut out large circles of pastry.

-Mix the pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice (see ingredients list for spices) and brown sugar together in a bowl and spoon 1-2 tbsps of the mix into the middle of each pastry circle, be careful not to overfill them.

-Take one edge of the pastry circle and pull it across to the opposite edge forming a semi circle appearance.

-Using a small amount of egg wash brush along the edge and with your finger push down and seal the edges together, pocketing the mix securely inside the pastry.

-Using a fork, go along the sealed edge and push into the dough to create a final seal and crimped edging. Do the same to all pastries.

-With a little beaten egg yolk brush the pastries as this will give a golden sheen to them when cooked. Sprinkle over a little brown sugar and place in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden.

-When cooked remove from oven and place on a wire cooling rack. Best served warm.
